In Pre-Columbus America, a group of Vikings makes a doomed journey to try to settle the region, leaving behind a young boy. The boy is taken in by the Native Americans who live in the area and raised as one of their own. Fifteen years later, the Vikings return and the boy is forced to choose between the family of his birth and those that have raised him.

I could do a normal review of PATHFINDER and talk about the cinematograph, pacing, story, etc....but I am not going to do that.

Instead, I am just going to talk about the really important thing in PATHFINDER....KARL URBAN. Karl is always outstanding in every film he does....but my goodness!! In this film he takes it to another level. He looks AMAZING, AWE-INSPIRING, BEAUTIFUL, HUBBA HUBBA.....need I go on?!

Let's give praise to the costume designer for this film because for most of the film Karl is in a loincloth/thong combo and nothing else.....can I get an AMEN???? His body is fantastic and .....help me out here....anyone got a paper drool cup on them I can borrow?

His hair is completely in the "artfully using a lot of products so it comes off looking like a messed up bed head" way and John Frieda should really consider hiring Karl to do a series of advertisements for their products as they would be guaranteed a jump in sales.

There is one scene where Ghost (Urban) comes out of the water to fight off an enemy and whew....are they keeping it really hot inside the cinemas nowadays or what? I needed a cool towel to wipe off with. They could take that scene and put it with the numerous other water scenes and sell it to Vivid Video to release as a porn DVD.

Seriously tho.....

PATHFINDER is actually a pretty good film. The scenery is very vivid and dark and the costumes contrast nicely with the winter scenes. The story is actually a classic story of nature vs. nurture - does Ghost ultimately embrace his genetic makeup and become a bloodthirsty Viking? Or does he choose to live by the way of his foster family and use nature and peace to overcome? The film has a nice running time - not too long and not too short. There IS a lot of brutal violence in the film so it might not be a great choice for small children, but all in all you could do a lot worse than PATHFINDER.
